Gainesville Area Chamber Builds Out Marketing and Public Affairs Teams

Todd Van Hoosear Named SVP Marketing Communications; Alyssa Brown Promoted to Sr. Director Public Affairs; and Shaw Adcock Joins Team as Marketing Coordinator

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – January 25, 2018 – The Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce is building out its team to strengthen and diversify efforts and impact in strategic communications, marketing and public affairs. The marketing communications team, which will be led by Todd Van Hoosear, will focus on service, growing membership and bringing new business to the region. The Chamber’s public affairs efforts, driven by Alyssa Brown, will center on supporting and advancing public policies that foster opportunity for businesses and families.

The Chamber named Van Hoosear, most recently of the University of Florida’s Innovation Hub, Senior Vice President of Marketing Communications. Brown, who has served since 2014 as the Chamber’s Communications Director, has been named Senior Director of Public Affairs—a new role within the Chamber. Shaw Adcock, who just completed the Master’s of Strategic Communication program at Texas Christian University, will join the marketing communications team as a Marketing Coordinator.

Todd Van Hoosear will direct the Chamber’s overall marketing and communications strategy. Prior to his tenure at the Innovation Hub, Van Hoosear served in senior leadership roles at several public relations agencies in the Northeast, including most recently as Vice President of Public Relations and Stakeholder Engagement at Eric Mower + Associates in Boston. He was an active member of the PR community in New England, a regular event organizer and speaker, and helped launch or re-launch two different TEDx programs in New England. Over the years he has also shared his knowledge and expertise with students as a lecturer or guest lecturer at several colleges, including the University of Florida, Boston University, Harvard University and Manhattanville College.

Alyssa Brown will develop and direct the Chamber’s public affairs strategy, including enhancing member and public awareness of key issues, and strengthening their engagement in public policy and advocacy efforts. Brown has spent more than 10 of her 16 years in public relations focused on state- and local-level public affairs in the areas of business, energy, talent/workforce and dental health. Prior to joining the Chamber team in 2014, Brown lived and worked in Tallahassee, serving most recently as the Communications Manager for CareerSource Florida, the state’s business-led workforce policy board. She also served as the Communications Director for the Energy Commission of the 2007 and 2008 Florida Legislatures. In Tallahassee, Brown was an engaged member of Capital Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association, served as a member of the District Advisory Committee of the Leon County School Board, and served on the Board of Directors of the Florida Society of Association Executives (then the Tallahassee Society of Association Executives). She currently serves on the Board of Broken Hearts of Florida, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that supports, educates and connects families affected by congenital heart disease.

Shaw Adcock will support the marketing and communications needs of several critical Chamber programs and teams. Adcock brings several years of experience in journalism, radio, photography and social media community management to the role. He is a recent graduate of Texas Christian University’s Master’s program in Strategic Communication.
