GHA Celebrates Black History Month

Home » News » GHA Celebrates Black History Month

Black History Month is an annual celebration of African American achievements and a time to recognize their influential role in U.S. history. In honor of Black History month, Gainesville Housing Authority (GHA) will be hosting its first “Black History Celebration” event on Saturday, February 25th, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and the Gainesville Technology Entrepreneurship Center (GTEC), 2153 SE Hawthorne Road.

This event will be an oratorical contest for children within our communities. Children will conduct research and select a speech by a well-known African American. Their reading skills and knowledge of African American history will be enhanced. “Black History Celebration” is open to residents of GHA’s Public Housing and HCV Program.

Many are unaware of the sacrifices and struggles that those before them have made. So, as we continue to move forward it’s imperative we reflect, enlighten and celebrate the great histories of our nation. For more information, please contact Tavarous Parks at TavarousP@GNVHA.ORG.
